30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[a] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31

I was reflecting this morning on the record I thought we would never see.  Yesterday marks the passing of 800,000 people from this coronavirus.  I thought about the medical doctors, some crying as they spoke, asking people to get vaccinated in order to bring an end to this pandemic. Medical experts remind us that these deaths could have been avoided if only people would talk to their physicians about getting the vaccine.

Singer-Songwriter Billie Eilish, talks candidly about her several-month battle with the long haul symptoms of this virus and reminded people that had she not been vaccinated she would most surely die.  As I listened to this song by Bob Dylan I was reminded that the simple truths expressed in this song are as relevant today as they were when he originally composed it.

Bob Dylan wrote this song at the height of the Viet Nam war, but I think the lyrics apply to the worldwide Covid pandemic. I was reflecting on what would Jesus say to us if he came back to earth today. First, I believe Christ would be at the bedside of the people fighting for every breath on ventilators, fighting for their lives against the virus.  I believe he would tell us to set aside political differences and talk with your doctor about getting the vaccine. I think he would remind you that just a little while ago, a man named Jonas Salk came up with a vaccine that ended the polio Scourge.  If everyone would think of their neighbor when making that decision, I believe we can end this pandemic once and for all.

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand?

Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

Yes, and how many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?
And how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?

Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

Yes, and how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
And how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?

Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
